Artifact 1

Self reflection is a big part of improving ones journey and I want to share my own with anyone who is interested in seeing how mine went in a light tone.

Thank you for following along

I AM
(2023)

I am someone who takes responsibility for my actions and others in my team as a lead to guide them towards the goal we set ourselves to accomplish.

I am someone who bases their decisions around communication of all kinds and looks for ways to improve them.

I am someone who attaches actions to decisions to make them more realizable and meaningful.

I am someone who does what they thinks is right, even if it’s uncomfortable, so that they can respect themselves and not regret their actions.

I am someone who is working to have a deeper connection with the people around them to add more meaning to their life.

I am Talib Talib

I want to become

I want to become an individual who improves all aspects of communication, including oral, body language, written, and cultural communication. As I value communication above all else, this will be a long process that doesn’t have a set goal as it will keep moving forward every time I meet my limits. I also need to make the process fun and exciting in order to continue my pursuit. This will and has defined every decision in my life so far, and I envision it will still do so in the future.

I want to become an individual who is honest with himself and others. Honesty requires following my thoughts through actions so as not to regret my choices or be a hypocrite. This is also to be honest when I’m down or high so that I can better position myself for the success I envision. Leaving no regrets behind and doing what I said I would do to show myself respect.

I want to become an individual who is responsible for the words he says and the actions he takes. Not blaming the world for the situation's good and bad. Taking responsibility for the actions and decisions I set in motion, no matter what the outcome is. Being someone that people know to rely on.

I want to become an individual who makes a deep connection with individuals and builds lifelong relationships based on the values of communication, honesty, and responsibility. I could start this by engaging in active listening and asking genuine questions about the other person to get to know them on a deeper level.

I want to become an individual who is proud of the name Talib Talib.

Reflection

Looking back at my "I Am/I Want to Become" statements, I smile, realizing that I have stayed true to most of what I wrote—though a few things didn’t go as expected. My values are still the same, but their order has shifted slightly. I once valued communication the most, but over time, I realized that honesty comes first for me, mainly because I strive to keep my word no matter what. I also learned that I value responsibility over communication, as I’ve sometimes taken on responsibilities due to poor communication—something that’s both funny and a serious issue I want to improve on. So now, my values stand as honesty, responsibility, and relationships. I no longer include communication as a separate value because it feels too broad; I now believe that relationships better encompass what I originally meant.

Everything I do has, in some way, been about bettering relationships. Improving my character and skills to support the people I care about has always been my goal. Being honest and responsible is my way of becoming someone I can trust—and someone others can trust, too.

I’ve become the person I wanted to be in my "I want to become" statement, except I hadn’t realized just how much others influenced my growth. Relationships have taken on an even bigger role in my life these past few years, as I’ve strengthened old ones, maintained existing ones, and built new ones.
